- Start with a 5- minute session per day (or even just 2 minutes if you are finding it extra challenging).
- If you feel up for it, have another 5- minute session later in the day, preferably before bed.
- Once your body is more accustomed to the sensation, slowly increase each session to 10 – 15 minutes, then eventually to 20 – 30 minutes.
Even while you are a beginner, it is totally up to you how many sessions you want to have. Many advanced acupressure users do not stick to a daily limit. However, we recommend you do not exceed half an hour per session. The reason behind this is that the spikes may make an impression on the surface of your skin, and especially since you are not accustomed to that kind of exposure, it could result in some bruising.
If you are experienced
Naturally, those that have come to love the feeling of spikes on their bodies can last longer per session. Depending on how sensitive the area that you are targeting is, you can work with a base time of 10 or 15 minutes and go from there.
Similar for beginners, you may opt to have multiple sessions a day, with the suggested half hour limit. With experience under their belt, many often opt to stretch it even longer to 40 minutes or more. As mentioned, there are no rules against it, but proceed with discretion.
If you have multiple sore spots
The more physical pain, mental stress, or emotional anxiety you are experiencing at a given time, the more we recommend utilizing an acupressure mat to ease the discomfort as it can target multiple areas at once.
